The NXTGENWOOD initiative is focused on developing sustainable commercial solutions to maximize the potential of this valuable resource through advancements in wood product development and processing.

A sustainable forestry sector is poised to play a pivotal role in Ireland’s efforts to meet national and international policy requirements, particularly in the context of a circular economy, climate change, and the EU Green Deal objectives.

In the long term, this research program aims to bring about environmental, social, and economic benefits by utilizing forest residue biomass to create value-added products and by implementing innovative technologies to produce circular wood-based items.
