About Us
We are PMNC
Who we are
and what we do.
Polymeric Materials and NanoComposites (PMNC) Group, led by Prof. Ramesh Babu and affiliated to the School of Chemistry and CRANN at Trinity College, Dublin.
PMNC is primarily engaged in fundamental and applied research of polymeric materials.
Our mission is to develop high-performance polymer-based materials for various applications across multiple sectors, including polymer composites, biodegradable polymers, sustainable materials, membrane separation processes and technology transfer.
Research Areas
Welcome to Ramesh’s research Group
Polymer Synthesis and Modification
The group aims to develop new functional (bio)polymers with controlled architecture, molecular properties, and diverse functionality.
1
Sustainable Polymers Processing and Characterisation
Our primary focus is the development of sustainable polymer composites based on biobased polymers, which have the potential to replace fossil-based polymers in a wide range of applications, particularly in the field of packaging.
2
Pre-treatment and selective separation
Renewable carbon is a crucial resource in the transition to a net-zero economy, particularly in the effort to reduce fossil-based inputs in the chemicals and materials sector.
3
Membranes and Down Stream Processing (electrospinning)
We are engaged in diverse projects in the field of product recovery from biorefineries, including fermentation and anaerobic digestion processes, employing membrane-based technologies.
4
Additive Manufacturing (AM)
Our current research activities are focused on exploring the combination and integration of Additive Manufacturing (AM) with other emerging fields of science and technology to realise radically new products, capabilities, and applications.
5
Valorisation of organic and woody biomass
We are dedicated to valorising forest and food residues by transforming them into value-added products, thus optimizing the resource’s value and addressing environmental and biodiversity concerns.
